A Long Overdue Update

So much to blog about, so little time. Here we go:

Jason Teraoka, one of my favorite Hawaii artists, just launched a new website. It’s super pimp, check it out pronto. I had the privilege of interviewing Teraoka for the forthcoming issue of Flux Hawaii Magazine, so please check that out as well. It hits stands tomorrow.

Deborah Nehmad, another of my favorite Hawaii artists, gets mentioned in a New York Times art review, which you can read here. Her work sits alongside Richard Serra and Jasper Johns and Sol LeWitt, which is beyond bonkers. I had the privilege of interviewing Nehmad, too, for Flux, so please check that out as well.

Chad Uyeno, one of the featured artists in The SHHHOW, is a mysterious man. Recently, he launched a new tumblr, with photographs from his home, in LA, and on the road, in Asia. He told me, several months ago, that he was headed to Southeast Asia on assignment; for whom, though, he did not say. From the looks of it, he’s in Cambodia at the moment. Follow him on tumblr.

This seems to be the year of the homie’s designing album covers. First Mike Lau, now Annie Nguyen, who designed the cover for Elos’s new album. It’s startlingly different, stylistically speaking, from her previous work, and I dig it a lot. She and her crew, Space and Sound, are putting on a show, with Free The Robots, on May 15th, at Next Door. Should be a banger.

Vincent Ricafort and Gary Saito both have work in the newest show by the Analog Sunshine Recorders, which is on display at Peace Café until July 1st. These guys are doing really fresh shows; I missed the first one, at The Manifest, but caught the second one, at 39 Hotel. The presentation was insane, and I love the way they approach putting together group shows as well.

Lisa Yamada, the editor of Flux Hawaii, is the real deal. Not only is she a phenomenal editor (my piece for the newest issue, thanks to her guidance and editorial presence, is the best thing I’ve ever written.) but she’s also putting together amazing events, too. CMA Hawaii and Flux are partnering with The Waikiki EDITION Hotel to promote arts and music education in Hawaii, with a series of talk story sessions. The line up of speakers is awe-inspiring.
